What to expect

Departure from Puerto Varas

Pick-up of participants at Itata 1231, Puerto Varas, or from their accommodation within the city. Transfer by vehicle to the base of Volcán Osorno.

1 hour.
Registration at CONAF and Equipment Preparation

Registration at the CONAF office and safety check. Distribution and adjustment of mountaineering technical equipment. Brief talk on the route and weather conditions.

30 minutes.
Start of the Ascent

The hike begins through rocky volcanic terrain. Progress is made gradually until reaching the point where crampons and ice axe are used for the snow and ice section.

3 hours.
Final Stretch and Ice Climbing

Last stage of the ascent, where a steep ice and snow wall is climbed before reaching the summit of Volcán Osorno (2,652 meters above sea level).

3 hours.
Arrival at the Summit and Rest

Enjoy a panoramic view of Lago Llanquihue, Río Petrohué, Lago Todos los Santos, Volcán Calbuco, Cerro Tronador, Volcán Puntiagudo, and more. Time for hydration and photographs.

30 minutes.
Descent to the Base of the Volcano

The return begins using controlled descent techniques on snow and rock. The technical equipment is removed at a designated point before continuing.

Return to Puerto Varas

Arrival at the CONAF office, brief rest, and then return by vehicle to Puerto Varas.
