El Morado Glacier is located within Parque Arenas, a private conservation park literally in the backyard of Santiago. It is easily accessible, and in just two hours from the capital, we arrive at the start of the valley that leads to the foot of this glacier, one of the most iconic in the region. Although it is quite close to the city, it feels like we are a world away.Along the route, we will pass through moraines, until reaching the end of the trail where we encounter a steep section that culminates at the plateau of Laguna del Morado. This one-way journey takes approximately 3 hours, reaching the base of Cerro El Morado at 3,260 meters above sea level, where the hanging glacier descends into the lagoon of the same name. A breathtaking landscape that’s hard to believe is so close to a city like Santiago.This excursion is certainly one of the most recommended during your visit to Santiago.
