The Parque Tantauco is a natural sanctuary located on Chiloé Island, making it an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts and biodiversity lovers. With a day pass, visitors can explore the Yaldad and Chaiguata sectors, two areas of great ecological value that feature a well-marked network of trails and multiple exploration options.Yaldad: The Beginning of the AdventureThis sector serves as the park’s entrance, featuring a visitor center where guests can learn about the local flora and fauna. It is also home to the Gran Mañío Abuelo, an ancient tree approximately 800 years old.Trails available in Yaldad:Río Yaldad Trail (2.7 km, 1.5 to 3 hours): A scenic trail through an evergreen forest, offering lake access and panoramic viewpoints.Darwin Trail (0.5 km, 30 min): A short, family-friendly trail featuring giant representations of native species, ideal for children.Siempre Verde Trail (0.5 km, 30 min): A quick loop leading to the Gran Mañío Abuelo, perfect for visitors with limited time.Chaiguata: Pristine Forests and LakesLocated 20 km from Yaldad (about a 1-hour drive), this sector features unique forests, hanging bridges, and stunning viewpoints.Trails available in Chaiguata:Bosque Hundido Trail (2 km, 2 hours): A must-visit trail featuring two hanging bridges, a scenic viewpoint over Lago Chaiguata, and the Hued Hued Walkway, which crosses a dense Tepual forest.Los Ñirres Trail (5 km, 3 to 4 hours): Connects with Bosque Hundido and winds through a Ñirres valley, offering multiple scenic overlooks.Borde Lago Trail (0.5 km, 30 min): A short, peaceful walk leading to the Lago Chaiguata dock, ideal for a relaxing experience.During January and February, the Chaiguata sector offers a restaurant for visitors.Parque Tantauco provides an immersive experience in nature, autonomous exploration, and a deep connection with Chiloé’s biodiversity.

Visitors arrive at the Tantauco Park entrance in the Yaldad Lake sector, where they receive information about the trails and park regulations. It is important to note that the Chaiguata sector, with camping and domes, closes from May 1st and reopens in September, while the Yaldad sector remains open year-round for day visits.

Arrival at Tantauco Park

Visitors can explore the available trails in Yaldad and, if in season, in Chaiguata. They can walk at their own pace, enjoying wildlife and flora observation, viewpoints, hanging bridges, and rest areas.

Self-guided trail exploration

Visitors return to the entrance to complete their visit and exit the park. Each visitor is reminded to take their trash with them and respect the closing hours.

The Parque Tantauco Ticket grants visitors one-day access to the Yaldad and Chaiguata sectors, where they can explore self-guided trails of low difficulty, observe native flora, fauna, and fungi, and enjoy scenic viewpoints, hanging bridges, and camping areas within the lush evergreen forest. All trails are well-marked and designed for independent exploration.

Fuimos por el.dia. Hicimos el recorrido de los ñirres, bosque hundido y en el sector yardas el sendero darwin y río yaldad.  Los ñirres es impactante por la vista del bosque reforestado,  pero lo encontramos demasiado largo y expuesto. Los demás eran maravillosos, con vista de muchos pájaros,  un bosque frondoso y recorridos claros y cuidados.
El camino para llegar por la entrada Yaldad está en muy mal estado. Hay que tener cuidado con eso si no tienes costumbre o auto apropiado.
