Located in the Malalcahuello National Reserve, Lonquimay Volcano offers one of the most spectacular high-mountain experiences in southern Chile. The adventure begins at 5:00 AM with departure from Temuco toward the Corralco ski center, from where the ascent starts along the eastern flank of the volcano.The route includes logistical stops and sections with snow, volcanic rock and occasional ice. The trail passes through a place known as “Pingüinera” and then climbs up the eastern ridge to reach the summit at 2,865 meters above sea level. The ascent takes 5 to 6 hours depending on the season and participants’ fitness, followed by a 3-hour descent.The full route covers 13 km round trip, with a total elevation gain of 1,315 meters and an average slope of 32°. It is a medium to high technical difficulty hike, with high physical demand—ideal for those looking to push their limits with the support of certified guides and technical equipment.
