This trail, one of the gems of Cerro Castillo National Park, will take you to the New Zealand Camp and the stunning upper valley on an approximately 8 km journey. During the hike, you'll experience a landscape that blends magical forests carpeted with wildflowers, crystal-clear streams, and majestic mountains with imposing glaciers, culminating in an incredible natural amphitheater surrounded by glacial cirques.In this unique setting, we’ll pause to enjoy a delicious box lunch while admiring the view of Cerro Palo, Cerro Chocolate, and the west face of Cerro Castillo. This route is also a paradise for bird lovers, offering the chance to spot three types of woodpeckers, Andean condors, and, with some luck, the elusive huemul, the emblematic deer of Chilean Patagonia.An unforgettable experience for those seeking to connect with nature at its finest.

We head to the trailhead in the Estero Parada sector.

Transfer to Cerro Castillo National Park, Estero Parada Sector

Trekking through a deciduous forest surrounded by lengas and ñires, with the possibility of spotting birds such as woodpeckers and Andean condors.

Start of the Trail

Brief stop at the first camp to enjoy the views and the natural surroundings.

Arrival at the First Porteadores Camp

We arrive at the Neozelandés Camp amphitheater, where we’ll enjoy a box lunch surrounded by a spectacular mountain range with views of Cerro Palo, Cerro Chocolate, and the west face of Cerro Castillo.

Arrival at the Neozelandés Camp and Lunch

We begin the return trek to the Estero Parada sector, enjoying the views and surroundings once again.

Return to the Trailhead

Arrival at the trailhead, where we’ll be picked up for the return transfer to the agency in Villa Cerro Castillo.
